a bit of harvest |
this little bitty hummer didn't wait 30 seconds after I hung it back up before taking her seat at the table
there was dinner out to the Islands Restaurant.....
a Rincon Burger for Man In Black... Grilled Chicken Wrap for his date - Me.
I had planned to eat only half and bring the rest home for the following day....
but I polished off the entire entree right then and there....so much for leftovers...
I think the man sitting one table over was watching and took notice Man In Black's date ate like a horse -
over the weekend we did a bit of comparison while shopping for groceries....
recent news reports show the chain grocery stores are the costliest...Target close behind with a lack of selection, The Dollar/99 Cent stores growing leaps and bounds trying to catch the wave of shoppers looking for the best stretch of a dollar...but the reported winner - Walmart.
so off to Walmart we went....on a Saturday...what were we thinking?
it was crowded....
apparently others had hear the same newscaster I had when stating "go to Walmart for the best bang for your buck when grocery shopping".....
we did save on the items we would regularly have purchased from the chain grocery...
but the selection was less....the aisles crowded....the checkout lines long.....but all in all..
I'll probably go again with a shopping list in hand, on a week night evening, and a pocket full of patience
seems my grocery shopping will now include three different stores....Trader Joes, Chain Store Grocery Market....and Walmart.....(Costco no longer applies to our lifestyle...I'm done with "big bulk" shopping)...sorry Costco...I'll be back when I need tires.
how much of my free time do I want to spend running around gathering food products??
not three stores worth that's for sure.....so the plan....to send Steve to do it all.....
not really....although, he'd probably do it if I asked.....he's sweet that way.
we also made a quick stop to the 99 Cent Store.....raspberries and strawberries came home...
candy for the antique jars.....
and reading glasses for Man In Black (we have insurance for this so why he buys eye glasses off a rack at a 99 cent store is beyond me)
we wrapped up the weekend watching cable movies and knitting legs for a giraffe toy.....
before I sign off tonight I want to share with you a quick (quick as in 5 minutes....okay, seven minutes if you want to include the time spent licking the icy cold concoction off the beater)
this recipe requires a bit of fun...
youthful fun.....
these should be served in the cutest little Dixie cups you can find....
Frozen Strawberry Cups
1 8 oz. package Philidelphia Cream Cheese
1 large frozen container strawberries (thawed)
vanilla ice cream
Dixie Cups....the sillier the better
Blend in an electric mixer on slow speed cream cheese and thawed strawberries,
gently mix in a generous (six scoops or so...or more depending on how much you love ice cream)
of vanilla ice cream....
you just want to gently blend these together...too much mixing and the concoction gets too runny
using an ice cream scoop fill individual Dixie Cups to the top....
cover with plastic wrap or foil and put inside the freezeer on the door and chill until firm
why on the door?...because you'll want more than one and so will your family members and you'll want first grab before there all gone...
you can pop them out of the dixie cup onto a lettuce leaf for a fancy type dessert.....
or.....
you can enjoy them all by yourself while reading the silly riddles on the cup
a fun twist to the waxed paper bathroom cup.....
today is my beautiful daughter-inlaw's birthday.....you can see how pretty she is by clicking on to the link on the side bar of my blog to - An American Werewolf In Sicily...she has a wonderful blog all about life and pictures from Sicily...you can see our little Zoe too.....she's quite adorable!!
Leah, I don't remember if you've had this dessert but not to worry....
there'll be a freezer full for you with birthday candles...happy birthday - hugs and kisses:-)
have a great start to the week.....see you soon.

Um, I had a hard time getting past the really red maters and the gorgeously green avocado. Man oh man.
I've never been a good shopper. I don't use coupons or spend the time finding the cheapest items. I really need to. I admire those who do.
I love those Dixie cups. They take me back!
In order to save money, I've started shopping at 5 different stores, but Walmart is not one of them. I go there when I have to, but the store drives me crazy! lol!
I do go to Walmart for some things..I usually have a curled lip while there, and not curled as in smiling if that's what you are thinking.
I will love mixing these pops up for the Grands, I think I will get some sticks and put them in too.
Thanks..xo
