A....is for......Skillet Pie?

Well, that's interesting....they've changed the blogger setup...sort of.

Now I'll have to figure this out. It looks different, some things seems to be missing?
Oh well, let's move on.

Pie.....Apple Pie.....Yummy Warm Apple Pie....interested???

Well, here you go (I took the picture from a picture...it's still too hot to bake a pie - and here in southern california our Fall begins in November).

The apples are available and the first day the weather takes a dip into the low 70's this recipe is going in the skillet and the ice cream comes out of the freezer.

Easy Skillet Apple Pie

2 lb. Granny Smith apples
2 lb. Braeburn apples
1 tsp. ground cinnamon
3/4 cup granulated sugar
1/2 cup butter
1 cup firmly packed light brown sugar
1 (14oz.) package refrigerated piecrusts (all you wonderful bakers out there will make your own crusts)
1 egg white
2 Tbsp. granulated sugar
Butter-pecan ice cream

Preheat oven to 350
Peel apples, and cut into 1/2 inch thick wedges
Toss apples with cinnamon and 3/4 cup sugar
Melt butter in 10" cast-iron skillet over medium heat, add brown sugar and cook, stirring constantly 1 - 2 minutes until sugar is dissolved.
Remove from heat and place 1 piecrust in skillet over brown sugar mixture
Spoon apple mixture over piecrust and top with remaining piecrust.
Whisk egg white until foamy. Brush top of piecrust with egg white, sprinkle with sugar.
Cut 4 to 5 slits on top for steam to escape
Bake at 350 for 1 hour and 10 minutes or until golden brown and bubbly

Serve out of skillet topped with a huge scoop of butter pecan ice cream....Happy Fall Everyone

Ok, what else??? I'm excited about this weeks topic for Sunday Series....glass.
I have the items but the light hasn't been the best (listen to me...the light...like I know what I'm doing - I point and click and hope for the best).
My brother over at Spare Parts n Pics has zoomed ahead in his photography talents so we'll get together before Sunday and add something new to my photo so I'll be learning and moving ahead each week.
First I've got to get a photo to work with.....this is a good topic....glass has so many possibilities.

I'm heading to the Farmer's Market tomorrow after work.....I have roasted tomato pizza sauce planned to make over the weekend and freeze for later in the year. I'll buy several pounds of tomatoes, red bell peppers, and onions and over the weekend make sauces....I'll post the recipe on Saturday, I'm sure I'll be wanting to give it the taste test on a big pizza, or pasta, or straight out of the pot...I still seem to be in an Italian craving eating frenzy...chocolate is taking a backseat to tomatoes this year.

Have a great day....thanks for stopping by....I have a scarf on the sofa waiting for a few rows before I call it a day and relax with Lap Dog....see you soon friends!
I'll be back shortly...I want to tell you about The Hawaiian Bag Knitter's hat...the felted one??? Well, it's felted all right!!!....that happens when you forget about it in the washer and away it spins and spins and spins and spins.....she's looking for a small headed person who likes the color plum - really small headed.

Oh ya,....I also need to show you my new jar....it has bugs inside...with batteries...that glows.....
it doesn't take much to make me happy - plastic bugs

Oh this recipe just speaks to me! I am going to copy that one down and try to find my skillet in the cupboard! It is supposed to finally cool down next week...and this would be wonderful...with ice cream of course! ;)

I didn't know SP&P was your brother! How cool! I'm so slow sometimes.

Can't wait to see both of your submissions. (Doesn't take much to entertain me either -- plastic bugs in a jar sounds fascinating!)

That sounds yummy...I've made a pineapple upside down cake in a skillet...I use them all the time, but never a pie...I'm gonna have to try that! Thanks for visiting my blog...I just became your newest follower...we're practically neighbors...I live in the IE.

Ok, it is NOT too hot to bake this skillet creation in Maine and I plan to do it!

All joys and thanks for the recipe,

It's too hot in Glendora to bake a pie, but I sure do want one! I am hoping it cools down this weekend so that I can bake coconut cupcakes for a barbeque we are attending. Your tomato sauce sounds divine! I'm looking forward to seeing it!
