there are some days you wish you could freeze time...or stretch the hours like an oversized rubber band...

the air perfectly warm and soothing...
the water lapping in rhythm that puts you to sleep....

sounds carried on the wind alongside the birds overhead....

this was one of those days...

the tourism of Sedona made it easy to leave...
the constant sounds of traffic...bodies moving along in autos and foot traffic cluttering the sidewalks...

a shopkeeper telling us of high real estate cost, shortage of water...high reports of cancer and contaminated water sources...likely thinking we were prospecting for a new place to live...

I didn't want to tell her that the town left me feeling anything but wanting to purchase real estate...

the constant flow of cars, overhead aircraft and pink jeeps at each and every corner left me feeling the same sense of ugh.... Disneyland, tourists, famous Orange County beaches and noise....

truthfully, we did everything but what the tourists were doing...
we shopped the thrift stores, Ace Hardware, local grocery stores and yarn shops...
we drove through the neighborhoods and talked with the shop employees....

I suppose one could say we missed seeing Sedona...but that's not why we went there...
sure the restaurants numbered in the dozens..
each with a view..
hikes to take...
photo opportunities of famous rock formations where countless Hollywood movies were filmed...

I was seeking quiet...a sense of peacefulness...that didn't include a guide, a tour pass, or standing shoulder to shoulder to a stranger with his camera slung over his neck....

the shopkeeper need not worry yet another tourist will be calling Sedona home...

I do suggest they come up with something other than 89A and several roundabouts where we witnessed a driver totally screw up and resort to driving over the entire concrete median because he couldn't figure out a circle concept...

don't get me wrong..I have no regret of going..it's a beautiful place that will take your breath...
it's just that it's not what I needed on this particular trip...
perhaps another time...a different month...a different season...and Sedona will feel peaceful....

there was a lake waiting for me...
so into the car we went..bags packed...famous fudge tucked inside the car....

and a mirror flat lake waiting to literally take me away.....

put on your sun hat....and come away... we'll head up river.....
