the suitcase never got packed..
the Fall decorations are still buried in the closets, trunk and attic…
the crusty remnants of the remaining two tomato plants are tinder dry and long overdue for removal…

but all that is second fiddle to my time with Zoe…

a sleepover with the forecast of blistering heat….a weekend of play the perfect remedy ...

we shared secrets, shopped for dress up clothes, enjoyed scoops of sherbet while Alice In Wonderland could be seen on the screen….
hair ties with rainbow colors, ice cubes in glasses that flashed yellow, red, green and blue..
a chicken coop where opening the lid is sure to delight..
one, two, three different colors of eggs..

hours….and hours spent in the water….

books with kittens and pillows with ladybugs…..
sheets with monkeys and tabletops with white twinkling lights…

at the end of the day when bedtime arrives, Nana is asked to stay and fall asleep…
sharing the pillow while the tiny arm stretched across my neck assuring I'd stay….

her deep heavy breathing….
slipping out and quietly closing the door, but not before taking one last look amazed by perfection….

in the morning hours the knob will be turned…
back and forth…back and forth until she turns it enough in one direction or the other...
she comes out sleepy eyed, smiling and asking….
"what are we doing today?"….

and I answer…."we're going to have fun"……"I love you Zoe.."

she replies..."I love you Nana"….
